“Wake Up” by Eeka Riddle is a hip-hop/rap project focused on spirituality, in a simple, deliberate way. From the album of the same name, this song is about keeping your faith, keeping your mind on Christ, avoiding temptation, and turning away from sin. The song is unmistakably spiritual, but bases its rap-driven expression in personal conviction.
“Wake Up” is also a very independent creation, and everything was handled by Eeka Riddle, and the responsibility gives the release a sense of personal authorship, as Riddle had a hand in almost everything it entailed. The focus is on the spiritual themes, not an add-on to the music.
The mood of “Wake Up” is inspirational, focusing on belief and the capacity to resist temptation. It is also part of an album of the same name, and so speaks to a larger artistic statement. “Wake Up” by Eeka Riddle is for those listeners who are drawn to rap with a faith-based direction. It’s a release of conviction and spiritual awareness, and a reminder to stay focused when distractions come.
