“I Am the Arrow” conveys deliberate movement and serves as a strong warm-up for Ade Vincent’s upcoming album, “A.WAKE.” As the project’s first single, it conjures a musical universe at the crossroads of composition, electronic music, piano, recorders, wordless voice, and complex production. Instead of a conventional vocal-led approach, Vincent builds the tune around atmosphere and composition.
A personal history behind the piano gives the release a particularly meaningful base. Vincent got the instrument from his father in the first months of 2024, the last months of his life. Vincent’s father bought it in his young man days in the 1920s from Vincent’s grandfather. That history made the instrument’s sound become part of the album’s writing and recording.
Vincent wrote and recorded “I Am the Arrow” in his own studio, where he also produced and engineered the track. Mixing was done by Hadyn Buxton and mastering by Lachlan Carrick, and the result is a deeply personal musical landscape for “A.WAKE,” an album carved from memory, sound, and a particular relationship with one piano.
