Nite Teacher’s new release, “St. Augustine,” lives firmly in the truth that love can be meaningful, just not what we expected. The acoustic folk single is a reflective exploration of love in all its forms, not just the deep caring but also finding the strength to let go a little and allow something meaningful to change.
Tate’s moody baritone is gently swaddled by Lilly Bechtel’s vocals in a pairing as emotionally deep as the song itself. The track features production and vocals from San Fermin’s Allen Tate, who lends the song an intimate emphasis. Its acoustic, folk nature gives the subject room to breathe, keeping the emotional ideas of attachment, acceptance, and separation in the spotlight.
“St. Augustine“ meditates on letting go of preconceived notions of what love looks like. The story’s central tension is that true love may require the strength to let someone go, rather than the strength to keep them where they are.
