I Nu’s new release, “Saisons,” is an acoustic folk song born from leaving one world and learning to live in another. The move from France to New Caledonia gave birth to this song, as the familiar rhythm of the seasons gave way to the South Pacific’s completely different pace.
“Saisons“ examines that transition through memories and acceptance. In Europe, the four seasons mark the passage of time, and in New Caledonia, summer is almost always present. This distinction is an inner adjustment to a new environment and a different understanding of time.
The lead vocals are by Marianne Canehmez and Hnaweje Canehmez; Weissenborn guitar by Jason Mist, guitar by Hnaweje Canehmez, ukulele by Marianne Canehmez, double bass by Nicolas David, and percussion by Gustavo Sandes. Sandes also did mixing and mastering, while Alexandre Devignes created the artwork.
The song’s imagery focuses on listening to the wind, watching the horizontal moon, and taking in the Pacific Ocean’s vastness. “Saisons“ captures the emotional intricacies of relocation, the longing for the known and the acceptance of what has become part of life.
