“I Follow You” is a tale of two people trying to find their way back to each other, even when the path forward isn’t clear. Lena Nilsson brings that story into the present with an indie folk, singer-songwriter release rooted in decades of history.
Songwriter Benny Lindström, 78, originally wrote the song and has been involved in music since the mid-1960s, continuing to write throughout his life. “I Follow You” was written ages ago, but never saw the light of day until Lindström approached producer Mats Nilsson with the idea of breathing new life into the piece. Lena recorded the song, adding another perspective to its long journey.
The final recording tells the story of a collaboration between Benny, Mats, and Lena. The final product comes from their collaborative creative process, where each artist brings their own unique experiences and perspectives to the project. It creates continuity in the release, connecting an older piece with a new interpretation.
“I Follow You” is really about taking that first step, not knowing all the answers. Lena Nilsson’s take on that idea adds a human dimension, turning the song into one about uncertainty, reconnection and the hope of finding a way forward together.
