“Control” is the first single from Finn’s upcoming album, and it’s a lively yet contemplative introduction to the folk- and Americana-infused music that the project promises. This has documented the evolution of the group’s sound. “Control” features layered acoustic guitars, banjo textures, and warm vocal harmonies.

With the contrast of an uplifting melodic arrangement and more reflective lyrics, the balance of prologue and epilogue illustrates moving forward while looking back. Performed by the band’s founding members, Mark and Luke Finn, as well as long-time collaborators Terry Hart, Jeremy Staples, and Daniel Angelini, this demonstrates how well coordinated they were as a group. The song was produced and engineered by Terry Hart at Woodstock Studios in Melbourne.

Mastered by Grammy-winning engineer Gavin Lurssen, the final product sounded more polished and richer. “Control” stands as a confident piece and positions Finn’s next album to strike a similar balance between the steady service of tradition and an expansive, modern Americana. It cements the group’s relevance in a changing Americana landscape and places them firmly within today’s stream of global contemporary folk artists.
