“Wesley“ by Nora is based on a fantasy most people know, and though it rarely plays out that way in real life, it’s the hope that someone will suddenly come along, sweep you off your feet, and make everything click. Her third official rock song explores that well-worn romantic trope through the lens of films, books, media, and the happy endings they so often promise.
Nora loves the big moment, the larger-than-life moment when someone walks in, or maybe something else comes up out of the blue and changes everything. The song doesn’t pretend such a rescue is possible. Yet the paradox is the appeal that knowing better will not necessarily prevent someone from dreaming.
That notion gives the track an emotional base that is playful but still personal. It’s not a difficult theory, just a simple wish to be saved from ordinary reality, to have something extraordinary happen. “Wesley“ is also another step in Nora’s growth as an artist, her third official rock release. Its greatest strength is that it translates a familiar romantic fantasy into a personal anthem of wishing life were bigger, brighter, and more cinematic than it sometimes is.
