The Curse of K.K. Hammond has partnered with David & the Devil and musician Kaspar “Berry” Rapkin to release a brand-new adaptation of the classic track “Ain’t No Grav.” Drawing inspiration from Brother Claude Ely, this adaptation delves deep into the dark roots of the blues, builds a cinematic atmosphere, and combines classic artistic texture with bold innovation.
Produced by David & the Devil and K.K. Hammond, this track enters with atmosphere and tension, and it builds forward momentum from its effects and slow-burning rhythmic percussion. Kaspar “Berry” Rapkin, who oversaw the mixing and mastering, preserved the natural breathing room of the instrumental harmonies and crafted a truly immersive auditory experience.
This trio conveys the full emotional weight of the song with unwavering conviction. Their hypnotically moving harmonies align closely with the track’s core themes of rebirth, struggle, and survival. Though this marks their first full collaborative effort, their seamless command of the stage is remarkably mature. This powerfully charged contemporary blues both pays homage to traditional blues and expands the genre’s emotional scope and range.
