“Le diamant des amants,” a title as rare as the form in which it is given, is the latest release from Noéphil, the French duo steeped in the tradition of chanson à texte. There are two versions of the song, which include a 1997 studio recording, made in one go, relying solely on voice and piano, and a 2026 live performance at the Consulat Voltaire with Noé on violin.

It’s the same song, the same intent, nearly three decades of life between them. The 1997 recording is intimate and still, with two instruments, one moment, no revision. In the 2026 live version, the violin is a quiet expansion, not ornamentation, but time made audible. They situate the song as something that has been carried.

Both versions are held together by the glue of the vocals. The delivery is direct and thoughtful, informed by the weight of lived experience rather than studio polish. “Le diamant des amants” arrives as a deliberate correction, with two musicians, a stage, and a song that has survived thirty years unchanged.
