Markus D’Ambrosi, The Officer, and MC Lillo are boldly carving out new creative space with their new single “Fantasy Girl,” a release that tells you exactly where global club culture is heading. The track is built around the bones of a well-loved freestyle classic from Johnny O. It reconstructs it, taking a seminal piece of dance music history and making it very much alive for today’s floor.

The Afro-house production is warm and layered, wrapping thoughtful melodies in contemporary club textures that breathe and expand. MC Lillo’s energy is sharp and sudden on top, but it anchors the track without weighing it down. The reason “Fantasy Girl” is so special is that it can do two things at once.

It’s deeply respectful of the original, but doesn’t want to live in its shadow. The end result is a track that serves as both a memory and a discovery, something older listeners will immediately feel and newer audiences will want to learn more about. “Fantasy Girl” is a statement of artistic direction and a strong one.
