In “banale baddie,“ Marie-Gold explores this disconnect because adulthood is rarely the sleek commodity we imagine in our youth. It’s the first single from her upcoming EP, “Projet de guitare abandonné,” and it explores the transition from student life to adult independence. It captures the pressure to build a secure future but questions whether traditional milestones are as simple as they are portrayed.
“banale baddie” suggests confidence and glamour, while banale leans toward the ordinary or mundane. The distinction creates a tension between the idealized version of success and the unspectacular reality of coming of age. While getting a job, starting a family, and owning a home are natural milestones of adulthood, they can be much harder to achieve than you may think. Marie-Gold navigates the uncertainty of creating a life on one’s own terms.
Marie-Gold moved to Silicon Valley, CA, for a full-time robotics job, but spent the summer taking guitar lessons, which led to a set of intimate folk songs. The background gives “banale baddie“ a good sense of introspection. The single is a first glimpse of an upcoming EP due Nov. 20 and sets the tone for a project that explores the struggle between ambition, independence, and the day-to-day realities that don’t quite match the picture-perfect plan.
