It’s easy to walk away until you have to ask someone else to do the same thing. That uncertainty is what Portland songwriter Matthew Heller sings about in “Let’s Go,” a rock-and-roll love song about wanting a new start without having to do it alone. This song takes the common idea of escape and turns it into a more intimate question of commitment and mutual possibility.

The main image is an invitation from someone ready to go, waiting for the one he loves to come along. The guitars are already going, a sense of forward motion, but we still have to see how it’s going to affect us emotionally. “Let’s Go” is the first single from “Dead Westerners: An American Elegy,” available in Spring 2027.

The new album addresses topics such as escape, belonging, and the people we hope will be there for us when we face life’s changes. The single serves as a primer for a bigger creative voyage. Heller also explores the relationships that prompt such decisions, going beyond presenting leaving as an act of independence. The difference is that “Let’s Go” is the heart of a familiar rock-and-roll fantasy of connection.
