Losing a child is a pain that cannot be described, especially for a father who may not have as many people acknowledging his pain. Indie-folk artist Jeremie T. Simon shares a very personal story of losing his first son six days after birth with “Naître et ne pas être.“ The release offers an opportunity for a father’s experience of perinatal bereavement, and a very personal loss, to become part of a broader conversation around remembrance and empathy.

Released October 15 for Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, it addresses a parent’s loss that rewrites a family’s story. The song is also featured in Charlotte Attry’s novel, Le brasier, published in France in October. It links two works of art on a theme that requires sensitivity and acknowledgment. Their presence in French media like Femme Actuelle, Le Parisien, HuffPost, Le Figaro, La Croix, and broadcast programs has increased the project’s visibility.

“Naître et ne pas être“ is an act of individual commemoration and a plea for the recognition of the grief of parents when an infant dies. This release carries deeper meaning beyond the music, thanks to Jeremie T. Simon’s perspective. It makes room for a difficult experience to be acknowledged with care, dignity, and understanding.
