An artist can revisit a song from years ago with a different perspective and renewed purpose, and the song can take on new meaning. Elisa Minelli’s pop single “Jealousy” follows a similar path, offering a previously performed piano-and-vocal composition to online audiences for the first time in a new band arrangement. This is her 11th release, and it also sends a powerful message about saying no to psychological abuse in toxic relationships.
“Jealousy” is over 10 years old and has some history before it was released. Elisa used to perform the song with piano and voice, but the new arrangement gives the composition a different shape. The single gives you a chance to re-examine its message in a different musical setting. Elisa calls the release a call to say no to psychological abuse, providing insight into the toxic dynamics that can develop in relationships. That focus gives “Jealousy” perspective, rooting its pop format in a subject that should be taken seriously.
Elisa recorded the vocals, piano, a Taylor 214ce DLX acoustic guitar, and a Gibson Les Paul Studio electric guitar in the Phoenix recording studio in Castel Mella, Brescia, Italy. Mixing and mastering were again done by Emilio Rossi, who had also worked on her last few recordings. Elisa Minelli talks about the history of songwriting, a new arrangement, and a message about personal boundaries in “Jealousy.” This is an older piece of work, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and rejecting psychological abuse.
