Things are taking a dramatic turn in the ongoing legal battle between rapper and YouTuber DDG and singer-actress Halle Bailey. The father of their infant son, Halo, has filed for an emergency court order to stop Halle from taking the baby overseas. The new motion filed earlier this week aims to halt Bailey’s upcoming trip to Italy with the child, which DDG contends would expose “imminent emotional and psychological risk.”

The new lawsuit comes on the heels of a legal move of her own that Bailey filed last month when she went to court seeking and receiving a restraining order against DDG, claiming physical abuse. The public squabble is capturing attention because both parties are well-known names in local circles and because of the serious allegations on both sides.

DDG’s emergency motion is primarily focused on questions about Bailey’s mental state and ability to parent a child while out of the country, according to court documents obtained by TMZ. In his filing, he accused Bailey of having a history of erratic behavior, one such event that occurred during her pregnancy, involving her taking his gun, then leaving the home without his knowledge, and returning many hours later. He also alleges that she had previously decided to have an abortion without his knowledge but later changed her mind.

Most troubling, DDG cites what he calls a “series of alarming text messages” in which Bailey made suicidal comments. Claims that, although unproven in open court, are being leveraged by DDG in his argument to not only cancel that Italian vacay but also win full legal and physical custody of baby Halo. If sole custody is not awarded, DDG has asked the court to order that all custodial exchanges be supervised or handled by a neutral third party. His filing contends these are needed to guarantee Halo’s safety and welfare, particularly in what he’s painted as an unsettled, volatile co-parent relationship.

The motion also raises significant issues around parental fitness, emotional safety, and the five-year, bitter legal entanglement between two young public figures thrown into the unforgiving glare of custody court. Although Bailey has not commented publicly on the emergency filing, in a previous request for a restraining order, she also appeared to be using the move to seek legal protection and accountability from the court.

What is playing out is a legal clash with life-altering consequences for both parents and a young child. The court now will be asked to decide whether both sides have valid claims and, more importantly, how best to serve the interests of baby Halo. Judge Parenzio’s ruling on DDG’s emergency motion is expected before Saturday’s travel to Italy. The decision on whether the trip will occur or be impeded will be based on the court’s analysis of the allegations and the strength of evidence both parties present. The case is a series of court and media battles involving custody. This family’s future looks uncertain, and the path to a resolution will be bumpy.
