In a development receiving as much, if not more, attention than the fights themselves, Adin Ross has made it known that when it comes to his boxing nights, there’s no place for Kendrick Lamar music. So much so that he threatened to fire an employee for playing one of the rapper’s most famous songs. The incident took place at one of Ross’s high-profile boxing shows he has put on recently, co-promoted in his venture with Kick and Stake. As of this writing, the above video of streamer FearBuck’s angry response to Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” playing on the event speakers has gone viral on Twitter.
“Aye, production, skip this s**t right now,” Ross snapped, flustered by the song selection. His frustration wasn’t with the mood or tempo but with himself. “I don’t want Kendrick Lamar played at my event,” he said. “And whoever f***ing played this song, you’re going to get fired.” The tension was far from over. Ross quickly replaced the track with 50 Cent, threading the needle between protectionism and justification. I’m a loyal person to my friend, that’s it. I ride hard for my friends,” he said, referring to his notorious loyalty to Drake.

This isn’t the first time Adin Ross has utilized his platform to help spread the gospel of his OVO brethren, particularly during the Drake vs. Kendrick lyrical war that dominated headlines for months. But this time, loyalty is oozing into the production booth where even hitting play on an accidental spin of Kendrick’s Grammy-winning anthem can allegedly land you a pink slip.
There will be Drake stans who see this as the ultimate sign of loyalty, but the response from fans of both artists has been mixed. A few salutes to Ross for staying true to his pals. Others say that refusing to have a line in a song, even one from a rival of your friend, is going too far, especially at a professional event. The battle for the best rapper between Kendrick and Drake may be splitting the music world into two, but Adin Ross just took it into another realm.
