Lawrence Timoni’s newest single, “Life’s a Mess (But We Love It),” is a raw, emotionally charged journey through life’s gorgeous mess. The track is grounded in the raw textures of indie rock and drenched in psychedelic flair, and it’s the equivalent of a midnight drive with no destination, just headlights, heartbeats, and a mind speeding through tangled thoughts.

This is a love letter to all the aspects of life, such as mental clutter, sleepless nights, and the crushing pressure to get it all right. Timoni wrote it during a period of upheaval in his own life, and he opted not to clean up the damage but to provide it with a soundtrack. He has made a strutting, tuneful confrontation with fallibility, one that surges with the influence of Arctic Monkeys’ swagger, Tame Impala’s psych-pop haze, and the emotional glower of early Radiohead.

Rowdy guitars collide with atmospheric synths while the rhythm section drives everything forcefully enough to ensure it doesn’t all come apart. The result is a song that feels like life itself, full and imperfect, charged with just enough momentum to move things forward. There’s a release here, of Timoni slipping out of the burdening cloak of expectations in the real-time of a demo. What makes this release stand out is its fearless honesty. Timoni provides a sandbox for feeling things out, flailing around, and perhaps even finding some peace in disarray. “Life’s a Mess (But We Love It)” is about dancing through the debris with your eyes open and your heart thumping.
