San Francisco’s Analog Dog is back with their latest high-energy hook, “Best of Me.” Their first track of a forthcoming sophomore LP, “It’s Not The Money That We’ll Remember,” is a shimmering mixture of tunes, punchy pop hooks, and a thread of raw emotion.

At first listen, “Best of Me” comes across as a guaranteed mood-booster, exuding upbeat energy and an unshakable hook. But go a little deeper into it, and the song’s real heart is buried underneath as a tale of loss, friction, and the bittersweet tension of life’s most challenging moments. Lead singer Austin Waz expertly sings lyrics that balance that space between mirth and misery, hope and desire, and the result is more than a jingle.

The thing that makes Analog Dog special is their talent for interweaving radio-ready pop with more existential rumination. On “Best of Me,” they weave in themes of self-reflection and anti-materialism, like music can do both. Released via Digital Cat Records and a sophomore album on the way, “Best of Me” lays the groundwork for a full-length album that aims to be as lushly emotional as it is enchanting.
