It was an idea that came to Marland when he was out on Broadway with a friend, and a famous country star bought him a shot of tequila. Marland was surprised by the moment, and by the sobriety of the man who offered it. The instant he heard his friend’s reply, “Tennessee Sober” was a perfect country song title.
That origin gives the release a wonderfully chatty feel. It was a funny observation that became a song idea, and the title itself has enough personality to make the audience curious about the story behind it.
