British indie rock quintet Wet Leg is back with their blistering new single, “catch these fists.” The track serves as the first taste of their long-awaited sophomore album, “moisturizer,” to be released July 11, 2025, and if this is any indication, we’re in for something beautiful.
Written by bassist Ellis Durand and frontwoman Rhian Teasdale and produced once more by the ever-reliable Dan Carey, “catch these fists” is a coiled burst of frustration shuddering in fuzzy guitars, deadpan vocals, and the band’s signature snicker. The song paints the picture of the real-life horror of people consistently encroaching upon your space, emotionally, physically, and existentially.
There is a raw tension that escalates and never really goes away. It is the equivalent of a side-eye from across the room just before things get popping. Teasdale’s singing swings from bored sarcasm to simmering fury, allowing every lyric to ooze with that especially British mixture of wit and dismissiveness. Durand and Holmes’s punchy bassline and frantic drums propel the track forward stylishly.
The song’s accompanying video, directed by the band and shot in their hometown on the Isle of Wight, is a twisted homecoming. In lo-fi fashion, the visuals balance surrealism and absurdity, mirroring the song’s central tenet of feeling uncomfortable in your surroundings. The video is a fever dream of standing in front of the people who just don’t get it and having your only response be to square up mentally.
“catch these fists” also represents a major change for Wet Leg. It’s their first release as a fully functioning five-piece band. Founders Teasdale and Hester Chambers are now accompanied by new members Ellis Durand, Henry Holmes, and Joshua Mobaraki, whose tonics on guitar and synths imbue a more robust, layered sound. This is no longer a side project but a full-blown movement.
