Micah Felts’ new EP, “I Don’t Know How To Write A Song,” is a heartfelt collection of turning life’s uncertainties into meaningful moments. The six-song project pairs folk and singer-songwriter influences in an honest look at personal growth, relationships, and self-discovery.
Produced by Sam Westhoff and Jesse Perdue, the EP was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, and Tulsa, Oklahoma. The title track of the EP was awarded the 2026 Jimmy LaFave Songwriting Contest award, marking an important milestone in Felts’ creative journey.
The opening track, “Silver Lining,” is a thoughtful search for direction, filled with vivid imagery to capture the feeling of longing for purpose during uncertain seasons. “Get To You” is a gentle reminder that real connection takes time, commitment, and a willingness to bridge the distance. “Rivers” with Callan Brown explores the path of life, the universal path of all lives, and mortality from a perspective of quiet, natural observation.
Throughout the EP, “Pink Clouds” builds a space of peaceful imagining, deftly balancing hopeful dreams with the realities of day-to-day life. “Smaller Mountains” is a story about resilience, about how life’s greatest victories prepare us for the quieter battles that follow. The emotional heart of the project is the closing “I Don’t Know How To Write A Song,” a song that welcomes in creative doubt and shows us that it is honesty, compassion, and observation that give music its lasting effect. There’s an honesty, a reassurance, and a deep humanity to these songs that make for a contemplative listen.
