With their latest rock single, “The Trunk,” Noble Hops unlock a weathered chest of memories and reconcile with their past. The song chronicles a son who learns about his father’s secret life, and it was written by Utah Burgess, who packs it with vivid stories and heavy emotions.

“The Trunk” is about things that were abandoned, things that quietly carry the history of a man who was transformed by the Vietnam War and its toll on his family. The song helps you discover things for yourself in an abstract way. It makes it feel personal, thoughtful, and informed by the messy reality of inherited silence.

This track showcases strong vocals and rhythm guitar from Utah Burgess, keeping the story grounded, while Tony Villella’s lead guitar work gives it emotional depth and edge. Johnny “Sleeves” Costa on bass and “The” Brad Hulburt on drums provide a steady, resonant base for the story, allowing it to breathe.

Recorded at Rattle Clack Studio in Pittsburgh, PA, the single reunites the same team already behind a Josie Award-nominated release for Noble Hops’ “Kelso Beach. Jazz Byers collaborated with Burgess to produce the music and also played percussion and acoustic guitar, and it was mixed and mastered by Mike Ofca.

“The Trunk differs in that it shows how history remains alive within families. The Vietnam War is depicted as something people lived through and whose repercussions are still present today. That discovery, that shadowing a parent through their life can reveal something about our own identity, is the song’s emotional heart. Noble Hops proves that its strength lies not just in musicianship but also in storytelling. “The Trunk” is a song about legacy and memory, with its stories awaiting release.
