Norine Braun, a singer-songwriter based in Vancouver, presents “A Hero In The Wind,” a profoundly personal, complex project that blends roots rock, soul, blues, and folk into a captivating experience. This newly released album is real, individual, and deeply human.

The title track, “A Hero In The Wind,” is the emotional centre of the album. Braun wrote the song in memory of her biological father, who died shortly after Christmas. It is both a goodbye and a celebration. Her delivery is a quiet act of bravery, graceful, moving, and ultimately inspiring. It shows how they talked to each other in a way that helped them heal.

Steve Dawson leads the band on guitars and pedal steel, and they all work together to create a lively and emotional sound. The band includes Darryl Havers, Geoff Hicks, Liam MacDonald, Jeremy Holmes, and Alice Fraser. Engineered by Sheldon Zaharko at the famous Warehouse Studio in Vancouver, it is warm and present, as if you were in the same room as the musicians.

The project’s lack of planning is especially impressive. The first five songs were recorded live in under an hour each, which is akin to capturing “lightning in a bottle.” This brave honesty is what makes “A Hero In The Wind” so enjoyable. Norine Braun uses music to convey her emotions and bring memories to life. “A Hero In The Wind” is a touching tribute to loss, connection, and the quiet beauty of finding light after saying goodbye.
