In a bombshell legal move, global pop superstar Lizzo is looking to clear her name as her legal team looks to have a former tour designer’s harassment lawsuit thrown out of court. The singer’s lawyers argue that Asha Daniels, the wardrobe designer who toured with Lizzo on her European “Special” tour, but who is not a victim but rather a bitter ex-employee, is apparently seeking fame and attention.
Daniels originally filed the lawsuit in 2023, alleging a “culture of racism and bullying” during her tenure on the tour. Although the court previously determined that Lizzo herself couldn’t be individually sued in connection with the matter, her entity Big Grrrl Touring, LLC, was still embroiled in the legal battle. However, Lizzo’s lawyers are now seeking to dismiss the remaining claims as well.

Lizzo’s legal team, spearheaded by powerhouse attorney Marty Singer, filed a motion on Friday (July 18) stating that Daniels lacks a plausible factual basis for her claims. Singer noted that Daniels lacks evidence to support her claims, and therefore her lawsuit lacks credibility and substance. “Daniels is not a victim of discrimination or harassment,” Singer said definitively. “She’s a disgruntled former employee with an inflated ego, personal vendettas, and an unquenchable thirst for free publicity. Her frivolous lawsuit makes a mockery of true victims and the laws designed to protect them.”
The response’s tone is direct and blunt, as one would expect, with Lizzo letting it be known that she has no plans to kowtow to the allegations and will do whatever is needed to keep her name clean and her brand secure. The filing also appears to try to change the conversation, depicting Daniels not as a victim of workplace abuse but as someone who is scouring the court system and leveraging the enormous public interest in celebrity scandals.
This, while Lizzo is still working through false claims made without any party receiving any defamatory meaning from the slander, saying in publicity that she is 100% the victim. As per Lizzo’s ongoing legal matters, her team believes it is attempting to curb any frivolous complaints. Whether the court will concur remains to be seen, but for now, Lizzo’s drawing a line in the sand and pressing the case against her company will be thrown out once and for all.
