Scottish punk rockers The Red Lite District are returning ferociously in their new single,” You Were Never In Love.” The single is from their forthcoming EP, “Life Won’t Wait.” The band, renowned for their non-stop, high-energy soundscape, has graced us with another barn-burning anthem that will leave you gasping for air.
“You Were Never in Love” is a high-octane explosion that pairs Nirvana’s snarling, grungy attitude with The Stooges’ primal abandon. It’s a track that wastes no time, barreling ahead with hysterical abandon, examining the orgiastic nihilism of love’s betrayal. From the get-go, with its brooding rhythm and scathing lyrics, the song takes hold and doesn’t let go, pulling no punches as it chronicles heartache and disillusionment.
The song’s thundering guitar riffs and pounding beat hark back to the reckless era of 90’s grunge, combined with the band’s modern twist. The way the Red Lite District can build a sense of energy and excitement with just the perfect elements of melody and aggression is evident, and all of the pieces are on show here. Their special mix of punk rock is obvious, with each member creating a dynamic sound that can be felt to the touch.
Recorded by Andy Miller at Gargleblast Studios, the track has a classic Janet sound and is a real taster of what to expect from their previous seven releases. Miller, who has worked with Mogwai, mastered the track, and it is immediately evident that it’s an absolutely resounding powerhouse that never abates.
The track is a confident Balter move, where the band reinvented themselves from their punk rock roots. It is part of the long-awaited EP “Life Won’t Wait,” which can only be described as an Audio rollercoaster of energy release and loud, mind-blowing influential tracks guaranteed to place The Red Lite District in the pantheon of contemporary punk. With “You Were Never in Love,” The Red Lite District once again proves they are here to stay, creating a defiant and unforgettable song.
