Americana blues-rock star Samantha Fish is again showing and proving that she’s got the chops and the attitude on her latest release, “Can Ya Handle The Heat?.” The rhythmically pulsating anthem was released as the third and final pre-release single from her forthcoming LP, “Paper Doll.”
After her previous two singles, “I’m Done Runnin'” and “Sweet Southern Sounds,” Samantha Fish continues her fearless rise with this storming new track. Written with her longtime co-conspirator Katie Pearlman and the legendary Bobby Harlow, who also produced the song “Can Ya Handle The Heat?” is a track that bristles with audacious energy, irresistible grooves, and outright arrogance. At its heart, the song is a playful, rock’ n’ roll invitation, a brazen challenge, bound in Blues and stamped with Fish’s voice that pulls no punches. It’s a sexy, rock’ n’ roll invitation to live life fully.
The song’s production, a funky mix of smoky blues and blazing rock, is a testament to Fish’s evolution as an artist. Each note falls the way it would from the horn of someone who knows what she wants to say and how she wants to say it. “Can Ya Handle The Heat?” is a song that brings the heat to the dance floor, and there’s no turning down the fire once it’s ignited.
With a new release, her ninth, “Paper Doll,” on the horizon, Fish cannot contain her excitement. With Mick Collins due to appear as a guest on the album and Bobby Harlow signed up as producer, the new album reveals Fish’s status as a real artist who has developed her crackling vocals, potent guitar skills, and live music feel to work on the squared hip, eclectic pacemaker. The album was recorded in Austin’s The Orb and Los Angeles’ Savannah Studios, around Fish’s relentless touring schedule, demonstrating unprecedented care and commitment and delivering far-reaching and passionate songs that are culled from that busy life and rolling stones.
With “Paper Doll” right around the corner, “Can Ya Handle The Heat?” is a teasing hint of what’s to come. Combining raw emotion with high-octane energy, Samantha Fish has perfected the craft of the mix, and this cut is a furious statement that she’s just beginning.
