“M Soft Light” is the first of a year-long series of songs written between 2012 and 2018 by Ghost Tymbre, a moody, atmospheric mix of dark folk and ethereal indie, after more than 15 years of creative development.
The project was born of a profound creative shift following a physical injury that prevented the artist from continuing to play traditional instruments. That change, instead of closing the musical journey, took Ghost Tymbre to sound production and another way of expressing the music. “M Soft Light” is a body of work shaped over years of writing, change, and adaptation, and marks the opening of a new era. Its dark folk and ethereal indie character makes for an atmospheric starting point for a project that looks set to have considerable range.
The larger album is a shift from alternative folk to alternative rock, with horns and strings woven throughout its lush production. The elements form the backbone of intensely personal songs said to be among the artist’s best work. “M Soft Light” is the beginning of a long-overdue conversation that is finally happening, making it all the more creative and personal that it has arrived.
