Zander, an American, delivers a six-track EP that conveys mental stress and urgency, reminding us of the roller coaster ride we’ve been on over the last year, focusing on key elements of Hip-Hop/Alternative Rap. “PROJECT 2025” runs just under 14 minutes and shows that small works can still forge a mark if the creator has a purpose in mind.

Based in Minneapolis, MN, Zander writes “PROJECT 2025” from the perspective of an artist and a human in the twenty-first century. The EP expresses the whacked political and social state of affairs in the U.S. with biting humor and a clear-eyed concern for how policies and power impact average citizens. Zander is working with transparent, concrete language that invites hypocrisy to be confronted and challenging questions to be asked.

The focus track, “Did You Hear?!”, is one of the EP’s most vital moments. It establishes the tone and purpose of the entire project, and it can contain the noise, lies, and outrage of modern conversation while still holding people responsible. The track serves as a thematic anchor and musical introduction to the EP’s wider story. “Safe?” also makes a lasting impression by tapping into the sense of uncertainty and openness it leaves.

On the other songs, “IT’S TOO LATE,” “Mad Enough,” “Done Clocking In” and “My Fellow Americans…,” Zander continues to hound over power, burnout, and disillusionment. Every track seems to serve a purpose, and they add up not only to something more like a narrative than a series of isolated moments. Zander wrote, recorded, and produced “PROJECT 2025” entirely on his own, which is enormous.

This autonomy from beginning to end is commensurate with the project’s overall themes of freedom and accountability, which he holds very dear. PROJECT 2025 sets itself apart from a crowded field, beyond simply taking a seat to wait and see. Zander, an American, drops a tight EP that’s deliberately inscrutable, at once thoughtful for a time so many people are still trying to process, and as a result, it is a gripping and timely novel.
