After a ten-year journey full of surprises and a tenacious creative drive, Will Sims has finally released “Do You Feel Alive?,” a scorching 7-track genre mash-up that combines punk grit, pop shimmer, and electronic exploration. Released after years of musical metamorphosis, the album emerged as a bold reckoning of artistic resilience and curiosity.
Recorded with veteran producer Tony Correlli, and written in two different studios and his bedroom at home over a half-year period, across birthdays and between shifts, “Do You Feel Alive?” is a time capsule. Every track encapsulates glimmers of Sims’s growth as both an artist and a person. From the pummeling hit “Full Speed Ahead“ to the emotionally raw “Better Off Alone,“ the record is a mix of a wide variety of influences, including David Bowie’s theatrics and the depth of Trent Reznor’s industrial act, all shrouded in DIY punk soul.
The album seamlessly transitions between hip hop, pop-punk, alternative rock, dream pop, EDM, and even funk, often within a single song. Add contributions from the likes of Jeff Gardner, Cody Cook, and Joe Ruggiero, and a natural element pierces it all from the big mess experiment. Contributions from Lindsay Collette and Abbey Danna on vocals add to the emotional depth of the record.
Clocking in at around 30 minutes, “Do You Feel Alive?” is also a dense, wide-ranging ride with tracks like “Amber Eyes,” “The Mourning Moon,“ and “There’ll Be Another Time“ that find a songwriter unafraid to mix introspection with discovery.
The album release is scheduled for Saturday, August 23, and will be commemorated by a special release show that evening at Monument City Brewing in Baltimore, Maryland, a testament to not merely the end of audible chrysalis, which has been stretching for nine years, but the first bold step of a reimagined Will Sims.
