Following a firm conclusion to one of the highest-profile celebrity trials in recent times, Sean “Diddy” Combs is already making efforts to reestablish some sense of normalcy. Though the music executive was acquitted of the most serious charges, racketeering and sex trafficking, the jury still returned a guilty verdict on the lower but consequential charge of transportation to engage in prostitution. As sentencing approaches, Diddy’s defense team has now made their play to secure his release with an extremely tight and closely monitored bond package.

Diddy is also seeking a pre-sentencing bond of $1 million, according to court papers shared by journalist Nancy Dillon via tweet. It’s not just a financial offer, then, more of a carefully constructed bid for temporary freedom, signed not only by Combs himself but by key family members, including his mother, sister, and the mother of his oldest daughter. The gesture emphasizes the family’s united front in what remains an exhausting legal and emotional drama.

The proposed package contains some harsh restrictions on travel. If so, Diddy’s radio hold would be limited to a few districts spread across four states: Florida, California, New York, and New Jersey. These are regions where the artist has homes and business interests. Namely, he would be permitted to move within the Southern District of Florida, the Central District of California, the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and New Jersey, only for court or lawful purposes.

Additionally, Diddy will surrender his passport, submit to drug testing at the discretion of Pretrial Services, and comply with standard pretrial supervision requirements. Although this deal has no formal impact on his ultimate sentencing, it sends clear signals to demonstrate that he is holding himself accountable and continuing to cooperate while trying to remain near his family and legal team. With a somewhat split public opinion circling the verdict, all Diddy is thinking about is freedom, after his own heart, under the court’s watch. And his new chapter doesn’t start in a recording studio, but in a courtroom, waiting for a judgment.
