Brooklyn-based artist Ski Team (the solo project of Lucie Lozinski) releases her new single, “Me,” an indie-pop odyssey that questions the roles we pin on ourselves and others. Right from her signature crystalline vocals, slightly vocal sliced on top in abstracted, downtempo production, Ski Team scours out a soundscape that seems intimate but vast, nothing but right for the listener’s heads and hearts to lose themselves in the raw pulling nature of emotion.

Made with producer Daniel Knowles (Sharon Van Etten, Cigarettes After Sex), “Me” is a lesson in economy and explosion. With its understated force, the track keeps stagecraft in mind, each note and lyric logistically laid to agitate the ambivalence and self-reflection that often accompany reprioritizing one’s relationships. Her light but sharp delivery perfectly captures the sensation of floating, despairing, daring between worlds, trying to find something firm to stand on in yourself.

“‘Me” is about the struggle of balancing the role of someone in your life, or vice versa, and losing that control of doing so. The thematic core of the song struggles with identity, what is there after we remove the titles, expectations, and attachments that we hold on to. It’s a reckoning with both the fear and the liberation of hopping into the abyss and trusting that all will eventually fall into place.

The official music video further amplifies the song’s themes, matching imagery to the song and its dreamy, melancholic essence. With “Me,” Ski Team cements her position as a magnetic force in indie music, doing the darkly contemplative work smartly while remaining utterly digestible.
