The legal battle between Kanye West and the woman who accused him of sexual assault, Lauren Pisciotta, is heating up, and according to Pisciotta’s lawyers, the rapper is making matters worse for himself. Pisciotta just filed a new addendum to the lawsuit, in which she alleges West sexually battered her, committed assault, and false imprisonment. In turn, the rapper’s representative refuted the revised claims as “ludicrous and ridiculous,” noting inconsistencies in the new claims. But that defense has only fueled the fire. Celebrity attorney Lisa Bloom, representing Pisciotta, hit back with a swift, surgical comment of her own, one that reminds us that, despite West’s PR offensive, it’s the rapper’s own social media activity that may be setting up a strong case against him.

Bloom’s approach is based on the same impulsive and provocative social media messages that West makes himself. One post, republished on X (formerly Twitter), took things a step further, calling into question Pisciotta’s character in an attempt to undermine her accusations. “WHY DID I NEVER F*CK LAUREN PISCIOTTA SHE SMELLED FUNNY AND HALF OF THE NBA CAN ATTEST TO THAT,” West wrote in a message that has received widespread condemnation for being not only in poor taste but shockingly flippant about grievous accusations. Although West’s representative claims Pisciotta’s amended suit contradicts itself, Bloom remains undeterred. “Kanye’s publicist is deafeningly silent on Kanye’s own admissions, which will destroy him in court,” she said. West cannot spin his way out of a courtroom.

As the case develops, however, it seems less and less like a battle of statements and more like a battle of hard evidence. If Bloom is correct, that evidence might already be hiding in West’s own posts. This would be a bellwether for a public man long immersed in controversy. At a time when celebrity silence can be seen as an admission of guilt, West’s loud and erratic stunts online may just come back to bite him. If the courtroom does end up being the ultimate stage, Kanye’s defense will have to face not only Pisciotta’s allegations but also the power of his own words.
