Based out of Los Angeles, multi-instrumentalist Rex & The Rhythm is no stranger to matching groove with storytelling. With roots in the spirited culture of Barbados, Rex has developed a new and well-known sound. His new single, “Play My Guitar,” out on RexRoomStudios, is an upbeat and catchy song that strikes the right balance between humor and heartbreak, and is what he describes as a concert in a bottle.

At its heart, “Play My Guitar” is a clever tale of giving everything in a relationship, only to be ignored and unappreciated. But instead, where a dirge might drown you in melancholy, Rex flips the script with a cheeky but relatable attitude. Those opening chords of the song create an immediate hook, leading into a rhythm-friendly ride of soulful vocals, sleek instrumentals, and an irresistible groove.

Rex explained that he wanted to create something that sounded like if ‘Songs About Jane’ era Maroon 5 had a love child with modern-day Anderson. Paak. And he delivers exactly that. The track drips with funk and soul, offering zesty guitar licks and a feeling ready for festival stages and late-night jam sessions.

The production strongly emphasizes Rex’s multi-instrumental prowess of crisp guitar work intertwined with an infectious bassline, while the song’s use of bone-deep, breathing live instrumentation fills every note with texture. It’s smooth, punchy, soulful, but strangely buoyant. With this release, Rex & The Rhythm reminds music lovers everywhere of why he’s one to watch in the ever-evolving landscape of music today.
