Budapest-based electronic producer duo Palo Canto is still collaborating with the multi-talented Hungarian musician Nóvé Soma for the new summer single “Closer to the Sun.” Their new album follows their friendship, which snowballed after their first joint work in 2021 when Nóvé Soma co-wrote “Run” with Palo Canto on the debut album. With “Closer to the Sun,” the duo and Soma are taking their musical chemistry to the next level, mixing silky electronic firearms with mindfulness-evoking proportions that the psyche can’t help but be enamored.
It perfectly combines deep electronic atmospheres, warm guitar strums, and Soma’s typical dark yet soulful vocals. It’s an intimate and meltingly vast song, pulling you into a grounded and celestial soundscape. This production by Palo Canto (Bertalan Tóth and Peter Kedves) is a testament to their sound signature, sound layers rich enough to saturate you and render timelessness in a cut that nevertheless feels fresh.
“Closer to the Sun” could be described as a song about desire, connection, and the ongoing chase for something bigger. Soma’s voice floats over the words, drawing imagery of longing for something just out of reach, be it a dream, a lover, or an escape. The lyrics connect directly into the atmospheric production, and the entire song achieves this seamless flow while simultaneously creating a palpable emotional depth.
The song is accompanied by a music video directed by Marci Nyitrai, which brings its themes to life. Shot in the striking terrain of Fuerteventura, the video employs expansive desert views and golden-hued light to fashion a cinematic setting for the song’s passionate, inward-looking odyssey. As the song’s lyrics imply, the visuals enhance the sense of getting closer to something out of reach.
“Closer to the Sun” indicates what to expect from Palo Canto’s upcoming second full-length. With this release, the duo and Nóvé Soma continue to explore their sound, blurring the lines of electronic music while keeping the human touch in their craft.
