The Nashville-based producer Marvin Go_harder serves something of a rarity, a track that whispers, grooves, and moves in total silence. His new instrumental track, “Night Talk,” is as smooth as they come, and it doesn’t have to say a word to say everything.

A Memphis native who now creates his sound in the Music City of Tennessee, Marvin is not a stranger to blending genres. With more than 15 years of do-it-yourself experience behind the boards, he has created an inimitable production persona rough-hewn out of Memphis’ greasy soul but honed with contemporary flexibility. “Night Talk” is a prime example of that.

And the track begins with assured self-possession, a moody, seductive rhythm that rolls out like a midnight drive on empty city streets. Marvin lets the beat breathe over a bed of warm and moody chords. The track plays to his lo-fi and chill-hop sensibilities but keeps one ear training on the hip-hop edge Memphis is famous for. What sets it apart is how it treads the line between softness and swagger, and you can aurally sense strings lurking in the background, providing lift and a kind of cinematic sweep even though this is not overproduced.

“Night Talk” is a dialogue of grooves, each track revealing itself like a story told between the closest friends. Marvin knows how to fabricate space in his music, allowing each element to breathe in their own pocket while keeping you engaged and attentive from the top to the final downbeat.

“Night Talk” is more than a beat, a vibe, a mood, a moment captured in sound. On “Night Talk, Marvin Go_harder demonstrates his technical ability and shares his world with us. And in that world, even silence is good.
