The Dutch multi-instrumentalist Mart Eerens serves up a furious, all-guns blazing anthem, “Cops Are Afraid Of Rock’ N Roll,” that will hit you in the gut like a Molotov cocktail thrown into the window of polite society. With the support of a taut and tantalizing band, Mart digs deep into the soul of rock’s untamed past and infuses it with a ferocious urgency that howls.

From the first riff, it’s evident that Mart Eerens has staked out a sound that’s unapologetically loud, politically charged, and gloriously defiant. With guitar in hand and heart aflame, he taps the weedy tutorials of classic rock and douses it in his own refreshing venom. It’s part punk snarl, part glam sizzle, and all attitude tied in a package that punches up and speaks out.

A proud pansexual artist and outspoken advocate for queer rights, he has no qualms about using his platform to entertain and incite. This song asks authority to congratulate freedom, all are still covered in mud and dancing-to, dance-worthy rebellion.

The grit in Eerens’s voice is punched with backing from a powerhouse lineup. Steven van der Meer’s basslines snarl underneath it, and Joey Boer’s keys give the contrast a psych-twang to bend and burn it. Darren Lut pushes it along with his pounding percussion, and Ronald de Jong’s saxophone is untamed and let loose through the mix. The band feels equally at home playing dive bars and revolution rallies.

Mart’s live shows are already the stuff of legend, and “Cops Are Afraid Of Rock’ N Roll” is falling somewhere between “Autonomy” and “Star Star.” It’s like the sound of one of those nights when sweat, sound, and liberation merged. In an industry that often sandpapers down its edges, Mart Eerens remains razor-sharp. He’s incinerating trends. On his new track, Mart tips his hat to the spirit of rock ‘n roll.
