Mandy Shadow’s latest single, “Round the Corner,” debuting from her creative sanctuary in Lanzarote, Spain, is a bittersweet ballad that dissects the sort of heartbreak that doesn’t derive from love gone awry but from creative connections dissolving, a melancholic homage to an artistic friendship lost but not forgotten.

Produced by Uri Avi and mixed and mastered at Ediproductions, “Round the Corner” is a gently lush and emotionally open record. Shadow composed the song on piano, and that intimacy is still at the heart of it. The production respects the rawness of her writing, leaving her unmistakable voice to tell the story but tells it softly, with a hurt ache, a battered kind of clarity.

The song has a very personal backstory. Mandy Shadow wrote it in response to an old musical collaboration that used to produce songs aplenty but has since fallen away. And the title, “Round the Corner,” is literal. So they’re no longer making music together, although their roads run almost parallel. That closeness-yet-distance winds through the track like a silent ache.

Recorded at Calufa Records with Miguel Sampol, this release represents another significant chapter in Shadow’s evolving story as a British-Spanish singer-songwriter enjoying a burgeoning international profile. It is a meditation on creative identity, transition, and what it means when collaboration becomes a memory. “Round the Corner” transports you to a silent yet heartfelt moment of transition. And if this release is any indicator, Mandy Shadow is creating moments that count.
