Norwegian singer-songwriter Lemi arrives with her latest single, “Baggage,” tapping into something simultaneously very personal and utterly familiar. This sophomore effort, global by Lemi, is an achingly beautiful exploration of the bittersweet realities of growing up, where childhood nostalgia runs headlong into the inevitable burdens of adulthood.

Written by Leah Michelle Hørberg, Robert Reid Gillies, and Thor-Morten Næs, and produced by Robert Gillies and Macab, “Baggage” is a song that captures the ache of looking back but also struggling to move forward.

The song’s origins are simple, as Lemi describes it as a piano ballad that grew into something much more layered, like a journey through time and emotion. Her delicately tremulous voice in poignant full bloom explains an inverse, leading the listener through waves of longing and regret and a quiet acceptance that life asks and demands that we keep moving forward no matter how heavy the past feels.

An accompanying music video, directed by Roj Ferman, extends the song’s message. Using evocative, vivid imagery, it illustrates a life caught somewhere between innocence and experience, making the feelings behind “Baggage” from an earlier point in Bynum’s life all the more palpable.

With this release, Lemi establishes herself as a storyteller, beyond just her words, but through the unvarnished emotionality of her delivery. “Baggage” is a feeling, a moment, a shared experience of learning to live with everything we carry.
