Country artist Lauren Carson releases a brand new single, “Word for Word,” and it’s characteristic of the emotional storytelling that makes up the very soul of country music. Produced by Matt Koebel, this third single is off Carson’s forthcoming sophomore EP, expected in November 2025.
“Word for Word” is about loving someone for their whole story, including their imperfections, not just what didn’t work out with other people, and all the eventual adoration that comes with being them. It’s a message of acceptance and perseverance, and about acknowledging that love is not just about perfection, but also about seeing someone fully and choosing them anyway.
“Word for Word” plays like a dedicated conversation, one drenched in warmth and lyrical honesty. Carson’s velveteen vocals paint a type of sour-sweet heartache that channels the vivid intimacy of Kacey Musgraves and Ella Langley’s earthy grit. The track combines modern country and cinematic layers of production, widescreen choruses, gentle guitars, and an emotional crescendo that blooms like a confession coming to life.
Koebel’s production puts Carson’s storytelling front and center, achieving just the right mix of intimacy and polish. With this release, Lauren Carson progresses and defines her evolution. “Word for Word” is a portrait of Carson being honest, unpretentious, and willing to tell her truth in poems, line by line, word for word.
