Coming off their debut EP “Americana,” Fateweaver is back with the release of their latest single, “Reaper. “The five-piece metal powerhouse comprised of Dalton (vocals), Northey (lead guitar), Danny (rhythm guitar/backing vocals), Ollie (bass), and Sam (drums) has steadily left its mark upon the underground metal circuit and has circled back around with a ferocious and unapologetic anthem.
The band was formed in January 2024, and as the cliché goes, Fateweaver hit the ground running. Their initial live show was a statement. On “Reaper,” they fan those flames, concocting a cut that pounds with the relentless raw, crackling energy that leaves you agape.
“Reaper” is a relentless mix of groove metal swagger, hardcore chaos, and deathcore intensity. The instruments burst immediately from the starting line, with Northey stabbing forth with a searing lead guitar that cuts through a thick, boisterous wall of rhythm courtesy of Danny and Ollie and a thunderous propulsive low-end. Sam’s drumming punches in with relentless precision, a rhythmic onslaught that propels the track forward like a runaway freight train. And then there’s Dalton, whose smoky, visceral voice is a clothes-shaking force.
Fateweaver is unique in a genre flooded with metal in their combination of depth and clarity. “Reaper” isn’t lost in distortion or distilled in chaos but thrives in it. Every breakdown feels like a punch to the chest, but how they get there, especially how they get to the transitions and build-ups and know how long to pause, shows how tightly their unit is locked in.
The track plunges into the metaphor of the “Reaper,” not as a harbinger of doom but as a confrontation with the darkness within. Fateweaver weaves an exceptionally intimate and universal story that deals with pain, healing, and transformation while never losing its edge of brutality.
Fateweaver sounds as loud, raucous as ever, and completely unrepentant. For metal fans looking for something new but are close to the genre’s chest, “Reaper“ is worth a listen to. Fateweaver is not just all about metal. They embody it.
