Eunice Keitan blends genres and faces her shadows in “Ninani”

In her new single “Ninani,” Eunice Keitan boldly straddles the line between light and darkness, building a soundscape that is at once ancient and futuristic. Blending R&B and Soul with the heavy-hitting heartbeat of Boom Bap, Keitan is a hypnotic listening experience that’s just as self-reflective as it is musically vibrant.

Out in time for Halloween, “Ninani” comes out like a self-discovery ritual and an encounter with the demons within oneself. You are thrust into a dark, psychedelic world where basslines collide with eerie Southeast Asian melodic textures. And it’s all set up in the lush, atmospheric production and a fluid mix of boom-bap percussion and ethereal tones that sound like whispers from the subconscious.

“Ninani” is about reclaiming power and the instant you stop running from fear and start commanding your own mind and fate. Eunice’s voice wends its way through the track as soulful, defiantly human, and determined.

Adding depth to the track are haunting backing vocals from South Asian artist Dee Devan and evocative flute by the internationally recognized Anh Phung. Together, they help create an immersive, cinematic sound that you sink into, prompting both contemplation and catharsis.
