“Desert Love” whisks you deep into a dream state, ethereal, yes, yet not without substantive emotional weight. Elsea’s voice here is fragile yet strong, with an aching, intimate, and universal exposure. It’s the sound of someone in the eye of a storm who can’t tell whether he should stand still, take shelter, or give into the tempest. The song starts with a muted acoustic guitar, barely stitched together by Londa’s light programming. At first, it’s a spare soundscape with room to breathe and think. But as Elsea’s melodic phrases unfurl, the production thickens, stacking rhythms and textures that start to pulse like an agitated heart.

Elsea and Londa composed, arranged and produced “Desert Love,” which they recorded and animated. The journey is all the more memorable for a ghostly video animation by Polina Komyagina, who released a track on the label Little Black Mountain that visually reverberates the track’s self-impressed emotion. With “Desert Love,” Elsea demonstrates that emotional truthfulness, when accompanied by beauty, can create something fragile and unforgettable.
