On their new single “Something,” Auckland-based four-piece Echomatica continues to carve out a unique niche of their own in the indie world. Mixing indie rock with dream pop shimmer, indietronica ambience, and the hazy slink of new wave, their sound is at once epic and intimate, a quality that has made them a supporting live act to be reckoned with.

Central to “Something” is vocalist Charlie Maclean’s glowing, meditative vocals. The atmospheric vocals are layered over close harmonies by AJ’s skillful programming and laid guitar, illustrating their track record for production. Guitar player Matt Chong lines the song with shimmery guitars, and Scott Samson sentimentalizes the bass, anchoring it all.

The song begins with a gentle spark, animated by bits of acoustic instrumentation, and grows into an opulent landscape that reflects the tug between hesitancy and discovery. It’s a song about finding purpose in the unknown, about the electricity that remains in silence and the wonder that exists within what’s unspoken.

As they prepare to release their self-titled debut album on October 12, 2025, Echomatica are demonstrating that they’re builders of intricate sound worlds that defy genre constraints and cling lovingly to human emotion. “Something” is not just a mirroring of what’s ahead, but a reminder that beauty persists even in moments of uncertainty.
