The Los Angeles-based folk trio Gal Musette, Taylor Sackson, and Daisy Abrams, known as Tin Angel, draws their tight harmonies from a full band’s worth of chemistry on their fourth release, “Couch Song” is a gentle, intimate shot of friendship that’s like a warm hug after a long day.

Recorded in one take at Jon O’Brien’s mountain studio, “Couch Song” is the kind of song where no bells or whistles are necessary to push through. Its power is in its brutality and simplicity. The trio employs moody, strummed acoustic guitars and intricate harmonies to create a musical environment that sounds organic, unfiltered, and, well, human.

The song at its heart is about those in-between moments, the late-night check-ins, the half-laughed confessions, the way a friend’s presence on your couch can make everything feel okay again. The storytelling is deeply personal but universal. It’s about the sanctuary of platonic love and the small, quiet ways we support one another. You don’t need to have lived in Los Angeles or been to Idyllwild to recognize the emotional landscape they paint. It’s in the presentation, soft-spoken, deliberate, and profoundly heartfelt.

“Couch Song” has a timeless quality to it, the kind of track that would feel as at home emanating from a vintage record player as it does streaming into your earbuds today. It is this combination of authenticity and emotional resonance that is Tin Angel’s sound and gaining them fans all the time. In a folk scene that, in its driest, most melancholic moments, can be heavy with memories, Tin Angel offers something more present, a counterweight. “Couch Song” captures a feeling. And that is everything.
