Powered by Virginia Beach legends Clipse, riding off the high of their reunion comeback, it becomes clear at their recent Los Angeles show that they are making every tour stop count. Hard-hitting rap duo and brothers Pusha T and Malice are closing up shop on Monday, Nov.15, in L.A., but before they hang up the mics, they put on quite an unforgettable show for fans and celebrity surprise guests.
Almost 15 years later, as the duo returns to the stage, the buzz and sensation of the performances indicate a thirst for their approach to the craft that consists of nothing but bars. Each show was greeted with excitement, but the Aug. 23 Los Angeles stop at The Novo was a colossal high point. The night’s highlight, however, wasn’t just Clipse’s signature back-and-forth flow, nor their onstage chemistry, but the surprise guest who graced the stage halfway through their set: Kendrick Lamar.

Kendrick started to perform “Chains & Whips,” and audiences went wild when he was joined by the Virginia Beach duo. That verse came with some evident emotion, though, and respect for the legendary Clipse. Kendrick embraced and showed love for every single artist on stage, proving how deeply their influence is felt within the hip-hop community. “This is our home city, it’s such a privilege to be in front of the motherf*cking legends, man,” Kendrick opened up, that moment solidifying that it would later be looked back on as one for the books.
Injecting an unexpected overtone, comedian and actor Bill Burr was in the audience, and he was all in. While Burr’s taste in music isn’t often dissected, his clapping during Clipse and Kendrick’s performance spoke volumes. Seeing the two perform so closely, and Kendrick letting loose, absolutely only served to underscore the general reverence and respect that Clipse commands even outside of the traditional music rivals’ bubble.
Last night in Los Angeles, the show embodied everything fans have come to appreciate: Clipse’s razor-sharp lyrics, raucous delivery, and an uncanny ability to make a live show truly stand out. Kendrick Lamar took the stage, and Bill Burr could be seen cheering in the audience. That night was a testament to Clipse’s ongoing influence on other artists and music fans alike. As their “Let God Sort Em Out” tour winds down, Clipse’s comeback is about reminding people of their legacy.
