Philadelphia indie rock explorers Bedolina emerged from a two-year slumber with their new single, “We Are the Clock Ourselves.” This hypnotic anthem probes how our perception of time, morality, and ourselves influences our choices. It’s the band’s first release since their 2023 self-titled album, and it’s a bold statement in advance of their follow-up record, “Sun and Flamingos,” slated for May 30, 2025.

Written in the creative cocoon of Miner St Recordings in Philadelphia, the song bears a cinematic depth as layered as the band’s namesake, the Bedolina Map, an ancient Italian rock carving. Bedolina’s vision isn’t of the past. Instead, it pushes ahead, molding indie rock into something fluid, personal, and dissonantly transcendent.

At its heart, “We Are the Clock Ourselves” beats with self-reflection. It is a stirring Indie Rock hymn about generating one’s internal moral compass and etching a course through one’s life. The song has a freshness and a sense of urgency buried deep within its spacey, reverb-drenched layers, which feel wonderfully intimate yet expansive.

Robbie Bennett and Charlie Hall of the band The War on Drugs also contribute keyboard and drum sounds that take the psychedelic song to heavenly heights. Their presence layers into Ken Gould’s evocative songwriting and the exquisite production of Brian McTear and Amy Morrissey to create a soundscape that’s at once haunting and energizing.

Mighty Joe Castro directed the music video, which promises a visual journey in keeping with the song’s depth, a dreamlike exploration of the elasticity of time and the constant evolution of the self. This song is a testament to their continued evolution as an artist and their capacity to surprise, challenge, and deeply move their listeners, and that there remains a need for mighty indie rock.
